JS Library in review

The end of the year is looming…
It is time to reflect and consider the achievements over the year.
Oliver reports still need to be run and our stocktake is yet to come. Hopefully we will find lots of lovely surprises.

Currently I am working on the JS Library Annual Report . A PDF of the report will be posted next week on the wiki page.

This week is our last week of class borrowing. Stay tuned for the top borrowing class for 2011. Will it be your class?

You can view a snapshot of the term on the JSLibrary wiki page.

Others new to the JS Library are:

Jim Springman and the Realm of Glory

“Jim Springman and the Realm of Glory is a funny new fantasy offering in which reality is thrown into chaos and starts to appear more and more like the world in Jim’s sister’s book, the Realm of Glory a book which Jim hates, even though he hasn’t read it. There is action aplenty, with twists and turns and laughs to entertain middle and upper primary aged readers.”

Outstanding picture books – Books that pack a punch

 Older Reader Picture Books

The following picture books are worth spending some time analyzing and enjoying.

One small island – PYP Appreciation, Caring, Respect, Integrity

“In One Small Island, Alison Lester and Coral Tulloch bring us the story of this remote and precious World Heritage Site.  Together they explore the island’s unique geological beginnings, discovery and degradation at the hands of humans, and the battle to restore it today.”

From little things big things grow – PYP Caring, Respect, Tolerance, Commitment

“Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly’s famous song has here been turned into a beautiful picture book. Featuring the background story to the lyrics and the lovely artwork of Peter Hudon and children from Guringji country in the Northern Territory, this is a title that will appeal to adults and children alike.”

Peaceful Hero – PYP Respect, Appreciation, Integrity, Principled

Why is “hero” a word so often reserved for warriors who fight with guns and weapons to defend their people? In this uplifting book, renowned picture book biographer Jonah Winter writes of another kind of hero, a peaceful hero, who is willing to die for a cause, but never to kill for a cause.

Ever wondered what happens in Disneyland after dark?

The Kingdom Keepers written by Ridley Pearson is set in Disneyland after dark.

“Five young teens tapped as models for theme park “guides” find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches who threaten both the future of Walt Disney World and the stability of the world outside it’s walls.”

James Patterson – “Books you can’t put down”!

I love reading James Patterson’s novels. I was thrilled when I first found out he also wrote for children.

The Maximum Ride  series is up to its sixth novel in the series (Fang) and it is ready to borrow.

James Patterson also writes the Daniel X series and Witch & Wizard series (2nd one recently released).

These books are also thriller, action and “Go, go, go”.

This is James talking about the book.

This is a fan made trailer for the up coming movie of the Maximum Ride book (due 2013).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AUTHOR & SERIES

If you liked the pace of the Stormbreaker novels then try any of James Patterson’s novels suggested above.

PS: Witch and Wizard is also being made into a movie! WOW!
