I have chosen to research this because my friend Sam is very passionate about Coding and I am very interested in it I also wanted to research about coding because I want to learn how to code and I want to learn the basics of coding because I’m very bad at it at the moment and I want to get better.

What is coding

coding is a list of step by step instructions that can make the computer do what you want it to do. Coding is a way to create computer games,websites,apps and animations. Coders are the people that program all the things we do or see on the computer.

How does coding allow the communication of ideas and beliefs?

Coding allows the communication of ideas and beliefs because coding is used for creating games, websites, security, robotics and many more. So you could explain ideas and beliefs on websites whitch is made by coding. We can also create games that wil help you express your emotions your creativity and your ideas.

How does coding work

Coding is a very complicated thing you can do coding on apps such as scratch,python and JavaScript. When you are doing coding there is a little box on the top right corner and there is a long bar on the left side with lots of buttons and lastly there is a blank white page in the middle    .In the box on the top right corner there is a little animated character, you can choose what character you want.It could be a cat or it could be a dinosaur you can put whatever you want.

Once you are done with that there is a bar on the left with lots of selections like movements, sounds, backrounds and sensors. You can select one of those options fore example you could click on movements. Once you have done that lots of buttons come up on the left bar like jump or take five steps. When you have looked at all of the buttons you can select what buttons you want and slide them to the middle of the screen and put them together and hit the start button then your character will do whatever you asked him to do.

But that is just one way to do coding it’s called block coding but there is a lot more ways to do coding such as cyber coding and keyboard coding. But block coding is one of the easy ways to code and block coding is mainly for kids but cyber coding and keyboard coding is a more advanced type of coding for adults.

In week three we went into 5B’s classroom and we saw a lady who did podcasts her name was Mrs Kelly.  She started telling us about podcasts and what they were for. When she first started telling us about podcasts I thought it was the same to the radio you hear in the car but I was wrong they have a few things in common but they were still very different. Firstly the radio is live streamed and podcasts are not another thing is the radio is mainly for adults but with podcasts you can watch them at any age. Mrs Kelly also told us podcasts could be for anything they could be educational they could be for entertainment or they could be for informing.  Once Mrs Kelly  had finished talking about podcasts we all got on our iPads told us to go onto the Podcasts app and we all listened to mrs Kelly’s podcasts.

In week 2 mr Ivett came into our classrooms and showed us a very cool drone when he got it out of the bag and started setting it up he began talking about how compacted the drone was because the big drone fitted in a small bag but when you set the drone up it is twice as big as the bag.  We also learn the different ways that drones are used for.  For example they are used for pizza delivery or fishermen could use it to make their line go out far. drones can be used in many different ways.  After that Mr Ivett drove the drone around and showed us what it was like.  The drone is very smart and it has senses all around it so if it gets too close to an object it will stop. Also if the drone gets to low battery it will automatically drive back.

The first rotation we did was coding there was a little educational app with angry birds for coding in the app there would be a angry bird and a evil green pig the aim was to code the angry bird to the pig and destroy the green pig it was fun but easy.

The second rotation we did was pencil and paper what we had to do is write in our books the most scary thing we did on year 5 camp and why. Then we had to go onto pic collage and write down what we did in our book. After that we learnt that pencil and paper is a form of technology because it has evolved over the years.

the third rotation we did was Spheros. The teachers showed us how to use the spheros Sam Baxter and I were a group we went onto the Sphero app and got it ready but then for some reason it didn’t let us drive it we showed the teacher and we finally realised that it ran out of charge so we didn’t get to use the spheros.
